Shahla is a 19-year-old Emirati who comes from a family of poets and naturally found herself interested in poetry. She views poetry as a form of self-expression and finds it fascinating how words can define certain ideas, perspectives and states of mind. She is currently a Psychology student with a minor in Criminal Justice and Sociology at the University of Colorado, Denver, and aims to raise awareness about mental health, violence, and gender-related topics.
