Have you ever wondered if you really know yourself? And how to learn how to find your passion to do what you were meant to do on this earth?
I remember the day I finished my Master’s degree. It was one of those days I will never forget, I was so happy that I achieved one of the goals I have set for myself, but that wasn’t the only reason. Gaining my master’s degree was one of my life goals for a long time, but only upon completing it did I realize how it helped me in more ways than just checking the box. I realized that I found my passion and that it was sharing knowledge. I learned how to do scientific research. I learned how to contribute back to literature. I learned how to simply share beneficial knowledge with the world.
What helped me the most to find my passion is knowing myself first, knowing who I am and then knowing my purpose in this life. We all grow up and live according to certain values imposed on us by people around us, our surroundings, and by values that control how we live. We follow them blindly to the extent of losing control on our own lives. Only the few people who recognize that the inner self can be the one in control, rather than the outsider world, are the enlightened ones.
We have heard about many legends who went against the norm to prove themselves right and live the life they created. Fortunately, this is a path that we all can take to create the life we want. From my own journey to create the life I wanted, I wrote a book and called it: “Looking Forward to the Bright Side”. The book is a practical guide to know yourself well, to create the life you want and learn how to master it, allowing you to create your own reality, and manage it in a very simple four steps:
1- Know your self.
Most people think they know themselves well, but they only know the conscious self, whereas a great deal of knowledge is hidden in the subconscious mind, which includes all our values, beliefs and fears.
It requires a lot of courage to accept your current self and plan the change towards a better you. The journey itself can be complicated and confusing, but it is worth it. It wasn’t easy for me to know the real me, and it was shocking at certain times, but I had the courage to learn more. To know the true you, learn about your values, beliefs, and fears.
“I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.” ― Maya Angelou
2- Find your passion.
What is your passion? Have you found your passion yet? If not, use these simple tips that could guide you to find your own passion:
- Follow your curiosity
- What are your interests?
- What makes you happy?
- What motivates you?
After knowing your passion, discover your dreams. If you have a dream, don’t give up on that. Be assured that you can do great things; don’t forget that every one of us has a child within them. Let that child come out, and even control you. They will add that pleasure and joy to your life.
3- Create the life you want.
When you know well who you are and what your real potential truly is, only then can you live the life you want, rather than the life others want you to live. The moment you take control of your destiny is the moment you take your right path. Live without the need to prove yourself to anyone, as each has different standards and views. Just be who you want to be. Live to the level you can accept and tolerate anyone around you, without the need to prove yourself worthy to them. Once you know your self-worth, everyone else around you will also know it.
4- Inspire the World.
With the life that you will create for yourself, don’t forget to inspire others to do the same. Leaving a legacy for me simply means sharing something useful with the world, something that encourages others to pursue their dreams as I did, or even to create a new dream that didn’t exist before. As happy as you are now living your life, spread happiness around you, because happiness is contagious.
The prophet Mohammad said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: ceaseless charity, knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him.” Knowledge that is beneficial, that is my passion. I’m committed to it and I’ve just started a new journey to pursue my PhD. So what is your passion? Have you found it yet?
