The Layers of One’s Life in the Pen of Sara Abuljadayel

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Living in today’s extremely fast-paced world, it’s very easy to lose track of time and sometimes even a sense of reality. The commotion of our environments doesn’t only consume our days and nights, but sometimes even ourselves. Through the poetry of Sara Abuljadayel, readers are taken on a journey of ponderation, self-reflection, realization, and comprehension of presence within experiences.

Within Just Wondering About It All, the author dissects what many may consider the little useless things in life and presents the depth and beauty within them while prompting reflections on the bigger pictures of life. The profundity within the poetry gives readers a prospect and incites them to take a step back from their lives and environments and simply reflect. While identifying the potential of serenity, joy, and magnificence that the most unexpected things may carry, allowing us to give meaning and appreciation to things that most may turn a blind eye to.

Additionally, losing a sense of connection to the little things around us could hinder a genuine, connected bond with our experiences, emotions, and vulnerable parts of life. The author tackles the bigger picture that we may capture for our lives through this. It prompts an understanding of paving paths, making plans, feelings of love and loss, meeting new people, and letting go. Reflections on such states of vulnerability allow readers to experience a raw connection with their emotions and sense of self.

Within A Different Phase in Life, through a reflection on the environment, emotions, experiences, and a sense of self, readers are exposed to the depths of responsibility, hardship, hope, and chaos that come with undergoing different segments of life. Themes range from the journey of facing emotions and undergoing change to posing approaches to dealing with one’s past as well as providing a lens to their perspective on the future. The author explores the journey of self-discovery along with the emotions that may occur throughout while encouraging the reader’s motivation to look forward to a brighter future by presenting a tone of relatability and encouragement. The author has the ability to present her thoughts with very intricate depth, which is portrayed through one of my favorite stanzas from the book: Even silence is beautiful. Find the beauty in everything. Find meaning in all-and most of all, connect with everything so you can feel the beauty, touch the wonder-and be alive.

A prominent theme explores the drivers of change that occurs with marriage and parenthood and the shift in perspective that may occur throughout- such as her standpoint on the significance of teachers within society. Indulging within the poetry gives a sense of purpose by prompting readers’ thought processes on their responsibilities, goals, future outlook, and the importance of existence. It’s the perfect reminder to embrace individuality while holding onto what we have, and that no matter how bad things get, they do get better.

Through reading the work of Sara Abuljadayel, I was eased with a sense of comfort by being able to step out of the extremely demanding bubble of life, reflect on both- the small and big aspects, without being overwhelmed with fear, nervousness, or regret, as a result of the comfort, validation, and tones of hope presented through the work.
