Self-Discipline as Success

Our mind is the most powerful tool we possess to shape the narrative of our experiences. Through it, we can attempt to shift our thoughts, sensations, and perspectives towards our success.

How many times have you been in situations that you wished you would’ve responded to or been affected by differently? It could be wishing you hadn’t spent the first five hours of your day resenting everything around you as a result of a minor inconvenience, or even wishing you would’ve found more depth in appreciating catching up with a friend over a cup of coffee.

When reflecting on certain events, we might find ourselves pondering over the effects of our mind and thinking on our experiences, and wishing we had more active control towards adjusting it to our preference. Like our bodies, our minds are under our utilization, having the potential of strengthening and shaping with efficient energy and training. Our mind is the most powerful tool we possess to shape the narrative towards our encounters. Through undergoing experiences, being actively present within them, applying control throughout them, and repeating effective strategies, we have the ability to shape our perceptions into complying with thoughts, sensations, and perspectives that we would want our mentalities to meet. As a part of identifying a sense of active control towards our mind, we can cultivate a form of self-discipline which accumulates to attain our desired measures of success.

The definition of success is not confined to certain benchmarks that should necessarily be attained. Success is constructed through a personally based distinct measure that defines it. Training our minds and realizing our ability to actively control our perceptions plays a vital role in our definition of success. Essentially, we don’t control the events of our lives or our experiences. Nevertheless, it’s essential to highlight that success isn’t determined by the outcomes of our life’s events. Instead, it exists as our responses to them and what we choose to do about it. Doing so allows us to recognize that success doesn’t solely rely on one’s perceptible state. Instead, it exists as a form of achieving personal satisfaction.

To an extent, we all have certain aspects of our mindset that we would like to alter to improve ourselves. To some, the ideal shift in thought processes and mentality could be attempting to apply a more positive approach towards the perception of events. To others, it could be attempting to moderate the intensity of emotions and reactions towards their experiences. While the ideas behind such changes usually exist as a bubble of mere thoughts within our minds, it is crucial to comprehend that we have the ability within ourselves to actively shift our mindset to our desire. Training our mind and shifting it towards complying with our desired attitudes and approaches doesn’t only give us the ability to regulate ourselves, it gives us the ability to control the approaches we have towards daily instances as well as allowing us the space to develop more endurance in order to reach long term goals and desired mental states.

To comprehend the role of our minds and intersect it with our definition of success allows us to detach from the concept of accepting failure as a result of circumstances that aren’t in our control. It’s realizing that while things might not always go our way, we have the ability to alter our views and shift our perception of success in a given situation, potentially shifting what success means to us through adjusting our ideas on what can be considered as personally satisfying, and finding it within instances we wouldn’t have expected.

Things don’t always work out in our favor, and sometimes that can feel demotivating. However, it is essential to realize that the circumstances of our experiences do not hinder nor define our level of success. Through fostering our sense of self-discipline, we can train our minds to comply with mindsets of our yearning, through which we can define our personal standard of success and cultivate our actions accordingly!
