To be a child is to live lightheartedly, exist in a state of the utmost purity, and experience life through an entirely different lens, allowing for an endless imagination that makes everything so much more extraordinary. The doors to the world of imagination exist in many contexts. Allowing children to indulge in their imagination by interpreting stories opens new depths to their development and thinking. By reading the following books, children can gratify their imagination by indulging in visionary stories that are open to their interpretation!
Tata-eih presents a little boy’s journey whose passion for art drives him to create a new word: “tata-eih”. The child uses the word to express his appreciation for the beauty of paintings wherever he goes. With repetition and time, his family grasped the concept of the word he invented. Eventually, the child exerts his passion for art in creating his own painting. The story portrays the child’s ability to demonstrate his intuitive imagination by inventing a new word, applying it to his environment while applying his interest and passion for art.
Alayah portrays the journey of a girl’s growth and constant connection to her roots by embracing her difference. Alayah‘s hair is made up of sand, allowing her to uphold a close bond to her place of upbringing (being by the beach) throughout her life, regardless of the changes that the area and her life endured. The story’s central idea revolves around the protagonist’s hair consisting of sand, allowing children to fathom that the uniqueness of her situation did not put her down. Instead, it existed as a connection between herself and her roots.
Meznah exhibits the story of a girl named “Meznah”, subliminally interpreting the meaning of her name through exploring the clouds around her. She unravels the difference in the clouds around her by using her imagination to construct different associations to each cloud. The story prompts children to find distinctive meanings to things around them through their imagination while prompting them to feed their curiosity.
Overall, the stories allow children to indulge in their imagination through their undertones, themes, and creative plots!
